Commonly known as the "Chocolate Persimmon" or "Cinnamon Persimmon," 'Maru' is one of the most unique and historically prized heirloom varieties from Japan. If Cross-Pollinated the flesh inside develops a stunning, dark cinnamon-brown speckled color and produces seeds. In this state, it loses its astringency early and can be eaten crisp and firm right off the tree. The flavor is incredibly rich, heavily sweet, and complex, with distinct notes of warming spices (hence the "chocolate" or "cinnamon" moniker). If not pollinated the fruit develops seedless, maintaining a standard orange astringent flesh.
